From the ground up: How Trimble Technology Supports Mixed Farming and Contacting Success
At PTx Trimble and Vantage, we love seeing technology make a real-world impact, especially when it helps our farmers work smarter, save money and deliver better results. Harry Divall runs a multi-enterprise farm that includes sheep, cattle, and cropping. For the past 10 years, he’s relied on PTx Trimble technology and software to bring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency to his operations and machines.
On his farm, Harry does a mix of deep ripping, tillage, and muck spreading. While he’s not a fan of excessive soil disturbance, he recognises the benefits when it’s done thoughtfully and sparingly. With GPS-enabled machinery, Harry has taken his spreading operation to the next level. In the past, estimating overlaps was nearly impossible by eye. Now, PTx Trimble’s guidance ensures more consistent coverage in the paddock and it’s paying off, they are seeing better yield.
Harry incorporates manure into the soil using 6-metre K-Line Speedtiller, and while it’s not on a controlled traffic system, many of his other implements are. His seeder, sprayer and spreader are all on control traffic on 24-metre runs and his seeder is on 8-metres, allowing a perfect line up.
Thanks to PTx Trimble’s section control and guidance systems, overlap during in-crop operations has been virtually eliminated. That kind of precision isn’t just convenient it’s also cost-effective. Harry calculated that even a single row overlap could result in 200 kilograms of seed wasted per 10 hectares. With PTx Trimble, those losses are a thing of the past. PTx Trimble’s guidance doesn’t stop at planting and spraying, it plays a big role at harvest time too. This kind of system-wide alignment boosts consistency and efficiency throughout the operation
With machinery often working across vast distances – sometimes up to 400km apart – PTx Trimble’s remote capabilities make managing a team easier than ever. Harry uses Trimble Ag software to remotely assign jobs, monitor live progress, and gather completed data in real time.
Ultimately, Harry says one of the main reasons he went with Trimble was the outstanding backup support from his local dealership. He says,
“With the area we’re covering, having that backup service is really important, and Trimble has been doing a fantastic job with that.”
Whether it’s minimising inputs like seed and fertiliser, eliminating unnecessary passes, or reducing labour time, Harry sees the savings stack up, not just for his own farm but for his clients too.
Harry’s story shows us exactly what’s possible when innovative technology meets hands-on farming experience. With Trimble and Vantage Australia, mixed operation and contractors alike can achieve greater accuracy, reduce waste, and work more efficiently, no matter how big the job or how far apart the fields.
Our precision agriculture software and cloud-based applications help you organise information, streamline operations and make data-driven decisions to get the most out of every part of your enterprise.
